 About This
Home:
This one-of-kind 4 bedroom, 3.5 bath home is located in
the historic Druid Hills neighborhood of Atlanta. Custom designed by noted
Atlanta architect, and Georgia Tech professor, Ike Saporta, this
mid-century International Style home sits on a shady, wooded lot on a
quiet dead-end street. In keeping with the original architecture, a
careful and thorough renovation has brought the house completely up to
date. Nestled among the mature trees and built of wood, stone and glass,
this home blends effortlessly into its surroundings. Freshly painted
inside and out, it is in move-in condition. The courtyard, with aged
granite walls, bluestone terrace, and a garden with a water feature,
welcomes you and your guests, and provides a charming spot for
entertaining and relaxing. Step through the front door and you are in a
delightful stone-floored sunroom with wall-to-wall windows on opposing
sides, offering views of the both the courtyard and the woods. The
freestanding two-sided fireplace visually connects the sunroom to the
adjoining living room.
The living room, dining room, and kitchen
all flow together in one large uninterrupted space for easy living and
entertaining. The wall of windows continues into the living room. There
are pristine oak hardwood floors throughout the main level living spaces.
The new kitchen has custom cabinetry with roll out shelves, deep drawers,
and brushed nickel hardware. There is a stainless JennAir professional gas
range, a stainless Bosch dishwasher, a double stainless undermount sink,
and concrete countertops. A pantry and a conveniently located laundry area
complete the kitchen. All three bedrooms on the main level are spacious
and have a full span of windows. The master bedroom has a new master bath
with a jetted soaking tub/shower, a custom vanity with a Corian
countertop, an undermount sink and chrome hardware. There is a built-in
laundry hamper, linen closet, and a separate water closet. The secondary
bedrooms on the main have two roomy closets each and windows overlooking
the backyard. A full bath and half bath are off the hallway. Both have
been renovated with stone floors, custom cabinetry, and Corian counters
with undermount sinks.
The terrace level has been renovated to
create a dramatic, light filled family room with kitchenette/bar; a guest
bedroom (or office); a full bathroom; and additional storage. Sliding
doors (with keyed entry) open onto the stone terrace. This area could
double easily as a stylish in-law suite. This home has a one-car carport
with extra storage and a new exposed granite concrete driveway. Take
advantage of great schools coupled with low, unincorporated Dekalb county
taxes!
About This Druid
Hills:
Druid Hills was developed at the turn of the 20th
century and later served as the backdrop for the movie Driving Miss
Daisy. Frederick Law Olmsted (the father of American landscape
architecture and designer of New York's Central Park) laid out the
neighborhood around a series of linear parks along Ponce de Leon Avenue.
Druid Hills has attracted Atlanta's affluent families since its inception,
and features some of the city's best residential architecture along its
beautiful, park-like streets. In addition to the linear parks along
Ponce de Leon, other recreational and cultural amenities in the area
include: Emory University's Schwartz Center for the Performing Arts and
Michael C. Carlos Museum, the private Druid Hills Golf
Club, Fernbank Forest and the Fernbank Museum of Natural History, the Callanwolde Fine Arts
Center; Candler Park (home to a public golf course, tennis courts,
a pool, and new playground), the PATH (a multi-use urban trail that is very popular with
walkers, runners, cyclists and bladers), and Freedom Park.
The
Druid Hills neighborhood is adjacent to Emory University on the northeast side of the City of
Atlanta. You'll find shops and restaurants at nearby Oakhurst Village, Downtown Decatur, Candler Park, and Emory
Village. Within a 3 mile radius there are the shopping and restaurant
districts of Midtown, Virginia-Highland, and Little Five
Points/Inman Park. It is a particularly easy commute to Emory/CDC, the
American Cancer Society headquarters, Emory Healthcare, and Egleston
Children's Hospital.
The Druid Hills Civic Association is a strong
community group that has vigorously defended the neighborhood against all
threats to the existing quality of life. The group is active and
committed, and maintains excellent communication among residents. Find out
more at the DHCA web
site.
Children living in this neighborhood attend DeKalb county
public schools, including the highly-rated Fernbank
Elementary (Pre-K through 5th grade); Shamrock Middle
School (6-8 grades); and Druid Hills High
School (a partner with Emory University in the Druid Hills Community
Consortium). Nearby private schools include: The Frazer Center
(infants - kindergarten); Waldorf School of Atlanta (pk-8); Friends School of
Atlanta (pk-8); The
Paideia School (pk-12); and The Ben Franklin
Academy (private high school for ages 15-18), as well as a number of
religious private schools.
This area is convenient to I-75/85, GA
400, I-20, and I-285. It is served by MARTA bus routes and is just blocks from the East Lake
MARTA rail station, which provides an easy commute Downtown or to the
airport.
